Coffee Blog - Overseas - Sweden & Copenhagen

As you can see from the 'Phil is speaking' sidebar, I will be in Europe next week. We are running a 500+ conference and then I am speaking at a leaders gathering in Randers nr Arhus, Denmark before heading for Malmo Sweden to be with this church on the weekend of the 25th. [I hope they speak english as well]

Now does anyone know where the best coffee is at any of these locations?????

The problem in this case is that Starbucks hasn't opened any stores in Scandinavia (yet). Could be due to the fact that both Denmark and Sweden has quite a strong coffee culture on their own, and Starbucks doesn't consider a potential success in these areas.

On the other hand, perhaps they just haven't had the time to open any stores here just yet...

Denmark and Sweden are OK, but fot the best coffee in scandinavia you have to shop between them, ...in NORWAY! Unfortunately this little country is one the the most expensive places on the planet, so the shortest of visits could be costly! They do serve great "Irish" coffees throughout scandinavia!

Had coffee in Malmo. The Barista recognised my Joe's Garage T-shirt [A coffee shop in Queenstown NZ] Turned out he was from Invercargill and pouring a mean brew at Nesta...... So thanks Nick.

Whilst I have yet to experience Copenhagen first hand, I have watched this city with interest owing to the fact that it has produced the World Barista Champion in 2001, 2002, and 2005. What's more, they all hail from the same cafe, Cafe Europa, owned by Jens Norgaard. Jens also co-founded (along with 2001 World Barista Champion Martin Hildebrandt) the Copenhagen Coffee Academy, described as being "the most scientifically-based espresso and coffee educational institute in the world". When I have sipped my espresso from Cafe Europa I will give it my cup rating - quite looking forward to it!
