Coffee Blog - Overseas - London

Massive, wonderful city however good brew is far harder to find than one would assume. Tons of chains Nero, Starbucks et al. Yet where is the real coffee??

My favourite so far, [until the cultured Londoners begin to comment] is Carluccios at Market place [off Oxford]...but now they are all over the place

It was a challenge for me but the best coffee that I have found without a doubt is Caffé Vergnano 1882 on 62 Charing Cross Road

Trust me I know good coffee in London

Other decent cups are Monmouth in Covent Garden, 4th floor in Snow & Rock Covent Garden, and Tinderbox on Angel High Street

Don’t touch starbucks yuck..

Defiantly Caffé Vergnano 1882 is easily the best coffee in London.

Enjoy

It would be a brave (and foolish?) person who claims what is THE best coffee in a city as large as London. I can only weigh in and say that the best coffee (by far) that I have had to date in London is also at Carluccio's in Market Place. If presentation counts for anything (and in my opinion it does) the fact they serve their espresso in the right shaped cup (conical with a thick lip) on a silver tray accompanied by a shopt of ice water (in true Italian style) adds another half a cup to my rating...4.5 Cups. While you are there, pick up a jar of their olive and truffle tapenade with a small ciabatta loaf - heavenly.

Amen to harry's comment, for I suspect he introduced me to them also. Vergnano is close to Hillsong Church on a Sunday I however (and harry is i'm sure not as convinced as I am) about the Local Hero Deli in Parsons Green on Fulham Road. There is a flat white on the menu and the barista is passionate about his coffee and work. Local Hero is closer to Hillsong London on every other day but Sunday.

ALL the chain are rubbish, but the best of the worst definitely has to be Coffee Republic. At least they use full fat milk and not the semi-skimmed rubbish that has invaded almost everywhere else. I find it leaves the coffee feeling metalic.

...follow up on Carluccio's. Whilst it's a nice Italian experience it is becoming a chain now and the quality is not consistent.

i for one don't believe harry is overestimating Vergnano. Is it possible that they could get 6 cups? They also serve it authentic style : )
