My pick (thoughy closely followed by an Illy-serving cafe at the other end of town) is Short Black Espresso Bar, 87 Hindley St. While you are there ask to have a read of their copy of the beautiful mini-book 'Io Sono Caffe', released by Caffe San Eustachio - my favourite cafe in Rome and one of the finest on the planet.

Cibo is not bad but they rarely make it hot enough for my liking. Illy is good I'd say a 4 cup. The Symposium Cafe definitely a 5 cup with the Ciao Coffee Bar - trad Vittoria - but still very nice a 4.5 cup.

Manto's Cafe on The Parade, corner of George St Norwood. I'd pitch it as a 4 cup, so well worth the short (3Km) trip from Adelaide CBD to Norwood.

Whilst you're there bask in the "Little Italy" atmosphere and enjoy authentic cuisine.

There used to be this incredible coffee house on flinders street (I think) in the city. We used to go there for breakfast during state championships....nothing like eating fresh hotcakes and smelling the coffee roasting in the oven in the same room!

The Left Bank (also in the city) isn't too bad, and there's a nice place in Nth Adelaide just off King William Street, but I can't remember what it's called...

Having lived and studied in Adelaide for 3 years, I agree with the nomination (drum roll please) of the coffee at the Left Bank. Great atmosphere as well.
